List of Disagreements

The list of disagreements is maintained by the editorial team, i.e., while suggestions can be made to extend the list of disagreements, it is left to the editorial team to consider and finally extend the list accordingly.

Creating Pages for Points of Disagreements

Each disagreement entry has a pre-defined format, being defined in a own template. Hence, new entries are created with the following procedure

  • create a new wiki page: you can use the wiki URL format to create a blank page, i.e., http://fipedia.org/fipedia/index.php?title=ARTICLE creates a new page with ARTICLE being an appropriate name for the disagreement and
  • apply a template for disagreement pages: use an existing disagreement template with the disagreement name (your wiki page name) as parameter, i.e., when editing the new page for the first time, simply insert the text {{subst:FIpedia:Disagreement_template|Name_of_Disagreement}} into your new page and save the page. When editing the page again, you will see the appropriate wiki code being inserted into your new page, with a links for the disagreement viewpoints and the footer for the community comments.

IMPORTANT: only change the appropriate parts of the wiki text, i.e., the summary parts of the viewpoints and the description of the disagreement!

Moderating Created Pages

The abovementioned template includes a section for filling in information for the moderator. Creators of pages usually serve as moderators for these pages, e.g., inviting contributions, moderating comments, etc. While the editorial team has a general moderation function over all pages on FIpedia, the moderator of a particular page is assumed to moderate his/her particular entry. However, the moderator section can be left empty.

Contributions to Points of Disagreements

The editorial team solicits contributions to certain points of disagreement but also to the overall list of disagreements from the wider community with the intention to present opposing views on the particular point of disagreement. These invitations can be done either through individual invitations or through open calls for contribution. Within the structure of the wiki page for a disagreement, these contributions will be placed into the links that were created in the wiki page (see above).

Creating Viewpoint Pages

When creating the viewpoint pages, please follow the link from the original disagreement page. The template for the disagreement page will create appropriate links for the viewpoints. When editing the viewpoint page for the first time, insert

{{subst:FIpedia:Viewpoint_template}}

into your page and save the page. A template with comments footer will be inserted into the page. After that, you can insert your viewpoint text in any format to your liking, leaving the comments footer intact.

Discussions on Contributions

The contributions are intended to provoke and stimulate discussions and debate. Using the template for the creation of the disagreement pages will add a comment section to the end of every disagreement as well as viewpoint page. This comment section is dynamically extended when users submit comments related to the viewpoints or the disagreement in general. The individual comments are added to the talk pages of the contributions. Please do not edit the talk pages directly; instead use the comment function on the article page!

Uploading Files and Material

You are free to upload material to support discussions and points being made. However, you must check appropriate copyright constraints for any material being submitted. As for naming conventions, follow the convention to use your name as prefix of the file name, followed by some meaningful rest together with the extension, such as JohnDoe_scalable_naming.pdf.
